De Chinese Nieuwjaarsviering – het Jaar van het Paard – op zaterdag 21 februari in Chinatown Den Haag trok enorm veel bezoekers en kreeg veel aandacht in de media.
Gedurende de gehele dag kwamen er meer dan 10.000 mensen naar de feestelijke optocht kijken van Chinese leeuwen en draken met Chinees vuurwerk. Ook burgemeester Jan van Zanen was er gezellig bij. Het was behoorlijk druk, maar wel reuze gezellig, kleurrijk en sfeervol.
Het was een geslaagd feest voor jong en oud. Het paard staat symbool voor energie, vrijheid, snelheid en doorzettingsvermogen.
Voor ons betekent het Chinees Nieuwjaar: gezelligheid, samenzijn, ontmoeting en verbinding. ‘Xin nian kuai le!’ (= Gelukkig nieuwjaar!).
Het volgende Chinees Nieuwjaar is 6 februari 2027, dan start het Jaar van de Geit.
